about digicams.. been wanting to get a new digicam (as jiaying's done) for quite some time now, eyeing the new sony cybershot [u] or something like that, the tiny palm-sized one.. 1.3 megapixels only, but at that kinda size and portability who cares? either that or that casio cardsized camera. that'd be cool! basically something small n portable enuf to bring around anywhere to replace the old cheapo no-zoom camera in my going-out bag (SPE now - standard personal equipment) with stagnant film left over from last dec or so - never took more than a few photos since then - and in any case its probably expired many moons ago. actually been wanting one since i have this unhealthy tendency to break all the cameras that i borrow from my grandfather (he likes cameras).. last one i borrowed from him was for social night and i din take more than 10 photos before i bent over and forgot all about the camera, which i put into my shirt pocket. hooray... (does grace have any pix of the camera i broke on her digicam?) for the record i tend to keep my things quite nicely.. i dont dog ear my books, i wrap them up, and all my toys - most, anyway - are in mint condition okay? i just happen to bend over n drop the cameras i borrow from my granddad. and they happen to be broken past the point of [economical] repair.. *sigh* i digress. i mean yeah i should get a digicam so i wont break these cameras but given the extremely low anticipated rate of usage it just doesnt make much sense buying one now. but its definitely on my wishlist of stuff to buy before i head overseas to study. (just like jiaying... got my revenge, haha [inside joke] =| )

other things on said wishlist: a cdplayer - not necessarily a discman, im looking into boomboxes - that can play cdrs n mp3s so i can do something else on the com while listening to cds (okay i mean do something else involving the cdrom drive... my coms crashprone but not that bad... yet) to replace my radio discman that doubles up as my room sound system (sad but true, i never quite saw the reason for buying a boombox, much less a hifi unless its got some extra to justify its spacehogging presence). again this is a likely pre-departure purchase on account of the expense involved, tho i can envisage myself using it rather often.

another item: 5.1 speakers so i can make full use of my soundblaster extigy - maybe as *the* amp for everything in my room from sound system to com. it blows the socks off my laptop's sound card, honestly, esp cos my laptop sound card has this unhealthy propensity to start giving way after about 30 mins of straight sound-playing - be it mp3s or audio cds or vcds or streaming content or games or something - giving voices this metallic tinge. i have this strange aversion to any speaker that needs its own power supply instead of drawing power passively from the line out (headphones do this)... and i guess its pretty justified cos ive only got 2 power sockets in my room, 1 on each side. 1 of them's taken up by my aircon (ahemz, thanks to the nature of my work i *can* survive without an aircon, fyi i was backing up stuff onto cdrs upstairs the whole morning with only a small window open...) which of course is such a high power consumption device that i really wouldnt dare to plug anything else in that socket. that leaves 1 socket, which i stress to the max by attaching it to a powerstrip with all the electrical peripherals in my room, from discman to com n scanner, printer, etc so i cant really imagine taxing the thing any more by plugging in a set of high-powered speakers! besides the powerstrip only has 6 plugpoints on it and all are used already. thinking aloud: hmmmm well to be totally honest i doubt if the speakers will draw much power. heck, probably the only thing that draws a large amount of power would be the com itself... so its not all that much of a fire hazard. i think.

enough of materialistic wants for now *grin* =)
